The best December markets in Barcelona

Present buying is one of the most stressful parts of December, and if you’re a TEFl teacher living away from home there’s even more pressure to get your presents sorted early, so that when you get home you’re able to spend time with friends and family instead of running round the shops. But there is a nicer way to pick up presents than trailing around Passeig de Gracia on a Saturday afternoon – Christmas markets! There are lots of markets on in and around Barcelona in the month leading up to Christmas where you can pick up everything you need for under the Tió. You’ll pick up presents that are unique, you’ll be supporting makers and small businesses, you’ll be shopping sustainably and you’ll have a nice time – all reasons to check out our list of the best markets happening this month in Barcelona!

All Those Food Market

This market is where to get gifts for the greedy people in your life. Lots of artisan products will be on offer, from cheeses to panettoni to chef knives, as well as coffee workshops and wine tastings. There will also be food stalls in the garden of the museum where you can get some tasty lunch, and DJs playing. It’s a 2€ entrance fee but well worth the money!

2nd and 3rd of December from 1pm on Sat and 11am on Sunday
Museu Marítim de Barcelona

Christmas Market by Festival Organic

This market is all about sustainability and environmental responsibility in the festive season. There are cooking workshops about healthy festive eating (even if it does sound like an oxymoron) and local crafters, artists and designers selling their wares, all in the beautiful surroundings of the Convent de Sant Agustí in El Borne.

16th and 17th of December from 11am both days
Carrer de Comerç, 36

We Love Cats Market

This is the place to go for any aelurophiles on your present list. A percentage of the proceeds of the market go to support a local charity which looks after stray and abandoned cats in Barcelona. There are lots of local makers at this market, so expect soaps, pottery, jewellery, tote bags and other handmade items that are perfect for Christmas stockings!

2nd of December from 11am
Carrer de Blesa, 27

La Puça del Clot

This enormous open air market is a one stop shop for present buying. With a huge range of stalls selling everything from knickknacks to clothes to records to kitchenware, along with local artists and designers, get yourself down here for some sustainable shopping in the sun.

2nd of December from 11am to 6pm

Give Print a Chance

Featuring the work of local artists and screenprinters, this market is a great place to pick up unique presents for artistic friends. There’s a huge range of styles and prices so you’ll be sure to find something no matter what your budget is, and you’ll be supporting local artists which is always a good feeling!

2nd and 3rd of December from 10am on Sat and 11am on Sunday
Carrer de Quevedo, 28

Vintage Fest

This market sells lots of furniture, artwork and houseware from bygone decades. While you might struggle to get a G Plan coffee table on a Ryanair flight, there are lots of smaller things that would make lovely presents for anyone with an interest in midcentury design or vintage homewares!

3rd of December from 9.30am to 3pm
Av. de Rius i Taulet 120

El Flea

Our favourite flea market in Barcelona is back with a December edition. With a huge range of stalls selling everything you can imagine, it’s a great place to find presents you didn’t even know you were looking for, and at a bargain price.

10th of December from 10am
Portal de Santa Madrona

Fira de Santa Llúcia

And finally, a Christmas market where you can buy wreaths and decorations and mistletoe to decorate your apartment, and tiós and caganers to put in your nieces’ and nephews’ stockings and then you can explain all the bizarre traditions involving poo that are part of Christmas in Catalunya!

From 24th of November until Christmas, 10am to 8pm
Av. de la Catedral
